Case Study #2 - Mega Church in Central Florida

Background

This mega church decided that 2009 would be a Year of Serving, recommitting itself to leveraging its enormous potential to impact the community for Christ. Yet it understood very well the challenges involved in trying to mobilize such a large number of members and Bible Fellowship Groups to find and act on projects that fit their particular skills and interests. In fact, prior to using Meet The Need, the church’s outreach director was spending most of his day taking requests from member families or local ministry partners, searching around to see which members could help, and then following up to make sure the needs were met. All of that work was turning the outreach director into an “administrator”, yet he is an experienced pastor who wanted to spend more time envisioning new ways to mobilize members and Bible Fellowship Groups (who were being asked to do a service project each “semester”) to serve others.

Role of Meet The Need

The church needed help organizing and coordinating all of its outreach processes – doing all of that manually was not going to enable the church to realize its full service potential. So the church brought in Meet The Need and asked them to customize a solution specifically for them. The plan they devised, and which Meet The Need programmed into the church’s version of the software, was to give “Serve Coordinators” (church members who could act essentially as Project Managers) responsibility for recruiting members to join their Project Team to tackle a local service projects. Meet The Need set up the system first to identify prospective Serve Coordinators, and then to give each Serve Coordinator a dedicated “dashboard” to post volunteer and resource needs for that particular project. Volunteers were expected to come primarily from the Bible Fellowship Group of the Serve Coordinators but the needs posted would be viewable by all church members. As needs were spoken for, Serve Coordinators could then see all of the contact information about the people who wanted to take part in the project. Finally, the system enabled the church’s staff to see the service activities of each and every Project Team within the church on its Master Account Dashboard so it could track and measure the overall impact the church is having in the community.

Success Story

We are the in the beginning stages of rolling out the Meet The Need solution at this church but have spent months planning for what is expected to be a tremendous boost to the church’s outreach efforts and to a city in desperate need of not only help, but hope.
